Thor Director Taika Waititi Originally Had "No Interest," Did Ragnarok For The Paycheck

Taika Waititi is known for making a stamp on Marvel’s Thor film series with Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, but he wasn’t always interested in making a superhero movie. He said on the Smartless podcast (via IndieWire) that, at first, he had “no interest” in making a Thor movie.

Waititi, who was known for smaller-budget films like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows before Thor, said he originally mapped out a career “as an auteur.” However, Waititi said he needed to make some money to help his growing family, so he took the job.

“I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children,'” Waititi said.

The director went on to say that he never read the Thor comics growing up, and in fact, when he did pick up a Thor comic, he remembers thinking, “Ugh.” Waititi also said Thor is “probably the least popular franchise” within the MCU.

But Waititi signed on and helped reinvigorate the Thor series and give it a more comical tone with Ragnarok, a theme he continued with Love and Thunder.

The original Thor was directed by Kenneth Branagh, with Alan Taylor coming in for Thor: The Dark World.Venir de Tragamonedas Gratis Online

A fifth Thor movie starring Chris Hemsworth may now be in the works, but Waititi has ruled himself out of directing it.
